Peggy Gene Middlebrook, 88, of Haskell, passed away, Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Haskell Healthcare Center. A Funeral Service will be held 1:00pm, Saturday, January 13, 2024 at the Church of Christ with Robbie Peiser officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Cemetery under the direction of Haskell Funeral Home, 2 Avenue D. A visitation will be held Friday, January 12, 2024 from 6:00-7:00pm at the funeral home. Peggy was born October 2, 1935 in Haskell, Texas, the daughter of the late Virgil Sonnamaker and Frances Young Sonnamaker. Her mother passed away when she was 16 months old and she was raised by her step-mother Eunice Redwine Sonnamaker. Peggy graduated from Haskell High School in 1953. On March 28, 1955, she married Billy Garland Middlebrook. In her early years, she worked as a telephone operator for the phone company; she then pursued her lifelong passion of supporting the family farm operations. Peggy was a devoted member of the Church of Christ. She enjoyed writing poetry, sewing and painting and was a member of the Brazos West Art Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Virgil Sonnamaker, Frances Young Sonnamaker, Ivy Jewel “Eunice” Sonnamaker; and half-brother, Jackie Sonnamaker.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 68 years, Billy Middlebrook of Haskell; son, Bryan Middlebrook and Nancy of McKinney; Grandchildren, Joshua Middlebrook of McKinney, Hayley Ochoa and Sabboth of Carrollton, Matthew Middlebrook of Carrollton, many extended family and a host of dear friends.
