Oleta Charlene (Cunningham) Del Valle, passed away peacefully at 8:00 a.m. on August 2, 2023, at Hendricks Hospital Hospice Care in Abilene, Texas. She was a Christian. She was born March 11, 1938, in Haskell, Texas. She was a proud 1956 graduate of Haskell High School, where she began her life-long love of books, the theater and music.
Oleta developed her artistic skills through flower arranging and quilting. She was an avid gardener. She loved animals and was very devoted to many wonderful dogs throughout her life, including her beloved Sissy, Munchkin and Pharley. She delighted in travel and enjoyed living on the Gulf Coast of Florida, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Iowa, Michigan, and throughout the United States from the mid-1960’s to the 1980’s, when she returned home to Texas. Her favorite places were in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania where she delighted in the lovely autumn foliage, the local crafts, the wonderful German/Dutch food, and the wondrous eruption of beautiful mountain wildflowers each spring. She also enjoyed fishing in Grand Isle, Louisiana and especially enjoyed cooking and eating the bountiful catch.
She was a kind, compassionate and caring person that was always willing to help others in need. She was very proud of obtaining her Texas Nursing License in 1988, at the age of 50, and practiced as a devoted and skilled caregiver in the Haskell and Stamford area until retiring her license in 2010.
Oleta is survived by her sons Carl Edwin Del Valle, II of Haskell, Texas; W. Bruce Del Valle, and his wife Andrea Kelly Del Valle of Hyattsville, Maryland, and Bryan Keith Del Valle, and his wife Jane Del Valle of Steinhatchee, Florida.
