Mary was born June 12, 1939, in Stamford, Texas, the daughter of the late Clifford Floyd Thorn and Elene Frances Wray Thorn. In high school, she was in the band, playing the trumpet, was a cheerleader and twirler. She rode barrels, and especially loved the Texas Cowboy Reunion, where she rode in the grand entry. On September 4, 1965, she married Jodie Kennedy in Anson, Texas. Mary attended Texas Tech for a year, where she studied to be a nurse, then started her family. She was always active, she snow skied, water skied, played in a bowling league, was a synchronized swimmer that participated in the dedication of Stamford Lake. Mary was an avid tennis and golf player, was a talented painter and played the piano and organ by ear! She was active in the community, acting in plays, "The Golden Girls" and a murder mystery. Mary sang in Yankee Doodle Girls with Nelda Lane, Roberta High and Becky Tubbs, and had a blast. During her time in the Progressive Study Club, she went to state with a dress she made. She was active in her church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, a GA leader and sang in the choir. Not only was she a talented woman, she was a loving, and Godly wife, mother and Minks to her grandkids and all their friends who knew and loved her. She was supportive of her family, from being a brownie leader, and teaching her children life lessons, that would be passed down to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary was very blessed, but her family was more blessed. She would always say, "I didn't deserve the best kids, grandkids, and great grands like I have, but I'm glad God chose me."
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Elene Thorn.
Mary is survived by her husband Jodie Kennedy of Haskell; daughter, Camin Pittman and husband Rex of Haskell; son, Rick Kennedy and wife Debbie of Haskell; grandchildren, Ross Pittman and wife Parris of Haskell, Callen Pittman and wife Haylie of Olney, Scott Kennedy and wife Amber of Haskell, Melody Kennedy of Potosi; sister, Syble Pitcock of Fort Worth; sister-in-law, Lucy and Tom Knox of May Pearl, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of dear friends.
