Mr. Hodgin was born Sept. 8, 1950, in Haskell, Texas, to James Fredericks "Fred" and Winnie Eulee (Best) Hodgin. He was a retired farmer and rancher. He graduated in 1969 from Haskell High School, where during the first half of his senior year he asked longtime classmate Sara Yeary on their first date to a class dove fry in September 1968, and their three-year courtship would continue through their college years. After Lonnie spent two years at Cisco Junior College and Sara at Baylor University in Waco, the couple were married Aug. 14, 1971, at First Baptist Church of Haskell with the Rev. Troy Culpepper officiating. The two made their first home in Canyon, Texas, and attended West Texas State University, now West Texas A&M. In the spring of 1976, the couple returned to Haskell, where Lonnie, along with his father, would enter a longtime farming partnership and establish Hodgin Farms, and he and Sara would raise their three sons. He was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman.
Mr. Hodgin was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Winnie Hodgin of Rochester.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 45 years, Sara Lee (Yeary) Hodgin; and three sons, Lonnie Wayne Hodgin Jr. of Wichita Falls, James Carroll Hodgin and his wife, Josi, and daughters Jasi and Jesslyn of La Vernia, Texas, and John Mark Hodgin of Wichita Falls and his son Teagen and daughter Jolee.
