Laverne Kuenstler, 98, of Paint Creek, entered her heavenly home, Saturday, January 25, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family and caregivers. A funeral service will be held 10:00am, Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Paint Creek Baptist Church with Pastors Bill Glass, Tony Grand and Sister Renee Glass officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Cemetery under the direction of Haskell Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00pm, Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at the funeral home located at 2 Avenue D, Haskell, TX. Condolences may be made at www.haskellfuneralhometx.com.
Laverne was born on September 19, 1926 at the Dean family home in Haskell County to James Judson Dean and Della Ida (Grand) Dean. She graduated from Paint Creek High School in 1944 and on May 16, 1947, she married her high school sweetheart, Truett Lee Kuenstler, in Paint Creek.
Laverne worked at the Haskell County Agriculture Extension office for 7 years. When Truett surrendered to preach, Laverne dedicated herself to supporting him in the work of the ministry. Together, they served the Lord in several churches: Roberts Baptist Church in Haskell County, Texas; Roane Baptist Church in Roane, Texas; First Baptist Church in Claytonville, Texas; First Baptist Church in Jayton, Texas; and First Baptist Church in Rochester, TX. Throughout their many years of service, Laverne typed church bulletins, taught children's Sunday School classes, assisted with Vacation Bible School programs and Women's Missions programs. In retirement, Laverne was a faithful member of Paint Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Haskell Gardening Club. She was also a talented seamstress, often making clothes for her daughters and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Truett Kuenstler on October 11, 2015; brothers, Elmer Dean, Jesse Dean and sister, Lavada Lambert.
Laverne is survived by her two daughters, Nanette Ashby and husband David of Vernon, TX; Leann Ellis and husband Randy of Marion, TX; three grandchildren, Allison Ashby of Flower Mound, TX; Kirk Ashby and wife Chelsea of Jinja, Uganda; Lanie Pile and husband Aaron of Seguin, TX; great grandchildren, Taylor Davis, Colton Davis, Ruby Pile, June Pile, Maisie Pile, Truett Pile, Charly Ashby, and Krosby Ashby; sister Ruby Mae Middlebrook and husband Dale of Paint Creek; brother-in-law, Roddy Kuenstler of Stamford; numerous extended family and a host of dear friends.
