Joyce Gene Jeter, 96, of Haskell, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021, in Haskell. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Willow Cemetery with Pastor Dusty Garison officiating. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm, Monday, June 7, 2021, at Haskell Funeral Home, 2 Avenue D. Condolences may be made at www.haskellfuneralhometx.com.
Gene was born July 14, 1924, in Haskell, Texas, the daughter of J.C. Holt and Clara Brite Holt. She graduated from Rule High School. At the age of 15, she attended North Texas University later graduating with a Bachelors Degree. On January 21, 1945, she married Edwin Terrell Jeter in Haskell, Texas. She taught Home Economics and History at Haskell High School and retired in 1978. Gene was a member of Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, active with Vacation Bible School. Gene worked in the church library, categorizing every book, as long as her health allowed. She enjoyed sewing and quilting.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Edwin Terrell Jeter on July 14, 1978; son, Rod C. Jeter; brothers, J.C. Holt, Jerry Holt, W.C. Holt; sisters, Tommie Alvis and Jewel Pittman.
Gene was survived by her daughter, Judy King and Billy Dodd of Hearne, Texas; daughter-in-law, Doy Jeter of Haskell, TX; grandchildren, Jimmy King of Lorena, Texas; Bobby King and wife Angie of Chilton, Texas; Michele Rowe of Schertz, Texas; Rod E. Jeter of Winters, Texas; Shayla Floyd and husband Jason of Robstown, Texas; 11 great grandchildren; 2 great, great grandchildren; sisters, Amelia Perry of Paint Creek, Texas, Jeanette Ramos of Albion, CA, and Jane Rowland of Dallas, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends.
