Jerry Franklin Saffel

Jerry Franklin Saffel, 81, a life-long resident of Rule, TX, passed away Monday, March 06, 2017 in Abilene. A Graveside Service will be held 3:00pm, Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Rule Cemetery with Chaplain Gerald Saffel officiating. A visitation will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2017 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, at Haskell Funeral Home, 2 Avenue D, Haskell. Condolences may be made at www.haskellfuneralhometx.com.
Jerry was born December 30, 1935 in Rule, TX, the son of the late Ramon Houston Saffel and Etha Alice Nabors Saffel. He was a 1954 graduate of Rule High School and later attended Texas Tech. On March 2, 1969, he married Wanda Hagar Peel in Abilene, Texas. Jerry was a 30-year member of the U.S. National Guard, a life time member of the National Rifle Association, he served on the Rule Co-op Gin for many years and was a former President of the Rule Little League Board. He also loved to hunt and fish. Jerry worked as a farmer for over 55 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Wanda Saffel, and brother Robert H. Saffel.
Jerry is survived by his son Robert Franklin Saffel and wife Lisa of Rule; step-children of 48 years, Mike Peel and wife Linda of Abilene; Wayne Peel and wife Toni of Marble Falls; Lesa Hertel and husband Steve of Abilene; Gena Muehlstein of San Angelo; grandchildren, Shelby, Kaitlyn and Jaxson Saffel; Brittany Lewis and husband Ryan; Jared Peel and wife Jamie; Jeff Peel and wife Jenny; Kevin Peel; Mikelle Furman and husband Evan; Justin Hertel and wife Becca; Riley Hertel; Sydney Nichols and husband Garrett; Abby Muehlstein; Bailey Muehlstein; great, grandchildren, Braden and Camden Lewis; Gage and Graham Peel, Harper and Cooper Peel; Sloane Hertel and a new baby expected in May. He is also survived by brother Gerald Saffel; sister-in-law, Betty Rose and husband Price and family of Eastland; nieces, nephews, and a host of dear friends.
