Wayne, 91, died peacefully at home on Monday, August 28, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
Wayne was born to George and Ruby Cantrell Wainscott, July 4, 1926, at home in Jones County. His mother died when he was ten, and his grandparents, Papa and Mama Wainscott stepped in to help his dad with the four children and greatly influenced Wayne's life. Then, in 1941, his dad married Maggie Stephens, who brought two more brothers and a sister to the family. He attended school at Wise Chapel and graduated from Hamlin High in 1944. He was inducted into the Army in December 1944, serving with the reconstruction forces in Japan as a sergeant until his discharge in November 1946.
After returning home, he met and married Bettie Gene Hines on September 24, 1948. They moved from farming in Hamlin in 1951 when Wayne went to work for West Texas Utilities in Haskell, where he retired after 40 years. He was a member of the Haskell Fire Department and Haskell Jaycees during this time.
Wayne and Bettie are charter members of Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church, where Wayne enjoyed helping build a new building for the church.
Also preceding Wayne in death were his dad George, his mother Maggie; 2 brothers, Weldon and Thomas; a sister, Mary; both sets of grandparents; brother-in-law, David Higgins and sister-in-law Margie Wainscott.
Wayne is survived by Bettie, his wife of 69 years; daughter, Susan and husband Bill Jones of Belton; son, Danny and wife Sharon Wainscott of Knox City; four grandchildren, Mandi and husband Jeff Watts of Flower Mound; Jodi and husband Chad Teasley of Seguin; Philip Wainscott of Elgin, Cody and wife Cassie Wainscott of Raeford, NC, and eight great grandchildren, Ruth, Weston, Max, and Clay Watts; Tyler, Hailey, Lacee and Leah Teasley.
On Wednesday, August 30, a private family burial service will be at Willow Cemetery in Haskell. Lunch will be at noon that day at Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church, followed by a memorial service, officiated by nephew, Stormy Higgins at 1:00 pm. All nephews will serve as pallbearers. Visitation with family and friends will be at the close of the service, in the church foyer.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Big Country Hospice in Abilene for their loving care of their husband, daddy, granddaddy, brother and uncle, and would like to suggest memorials be made to Hospice at West Texas Rehab Center, or the donor's charity of choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Haskell Funeral Home, 2 Avenue D, Haskell. Condolences may be made at www.haskellfuneralhometx.com.
