Delight was born October 27, 1932, in Throckmorton, Texas, the daughter of the late Troy Edward Ash, Sr. and Nellie Mynea McFadin Ash. At three months old, her family moved to Mattson, and in 1950, graduated from Mattson High School. On February 20, 1952, she married Roy Moody Harris in Haskell. He preceded her in death. She later married Leon Dewayne Jones on December 21, 1957 in Haskell. Three children came of these unions, Ed, Cynthia and Mynea.
For 38 years, she worked as an office manager at Bill Wilson Motor Co. and for the past nine years, she worked at Haskell Funeral Home. Delight served on many boards throughout the years, including the Willow Cemetery Association, Haskell-Mattson-Weinert-Rochester Homecoming Board and the Chamber of Commerce. In 2014, Delight was honored as Volunteer of the Year awarded by the Haskell Chamber of Commerce.
Delight was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church since joining 1963. She served as the Chairman of the FBC Dining and Funeral Committee; taught the 5-year-olds Sunday School classes and was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class. Delight absolutely loved to sing! She routinely sang in the church choir including every annual Christmas and Easter Cantata. She and her longtime friend, Carolyn Everett, sang as a duo for many years at numerous church functions and funeral services.
Delight enjoyed square dancing and playing canasta with her friends; but what she loved the most is her family. From being active in her children’s activities as they grew up, to her grandchildren and even her great grandchildren. Each Christmas Eve, she spoiled family and friends with her infamous chicken fried steak. Delight was a beautiful, caring mother, sister, and friend. She radiated Jesus and His love and encouragement. She leaves a legacy of love and service to be carried on by all of those who cherish her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Troy, Sr. and Nellie Ash; husband, Roy Moody Harris; husband, Leon Dewayne Jones; brothers, Troy Edward Ash, Jr. and John Edward Ash.
Delight is survived by her son, Ed Harris and wife Jill of Abilene; daughters, Cynthia Jones and Mynea Short and husband Cliff both of Haskell; grandchildren, Evan Harris and wife Callie of Abilene; Peyton Harris and wife Kari of Dallas; Colin Harris and wife Abigail of Shenandoah; Cameron Short and wife Emily of Haskell; Ashlee Gainey and husband Ryan of Colorado City; great grandchildren, Caroline Harris, Clara Harris, Carter Harris, Porter Harris, Tucker Harris, Palmer Harris, Annie Harris, Frances Harris, Kamryn Short, Mack Short, Jones Short and Dansby Gainey; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of dear friends.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the love and care given to Delight by her loving caretaker Minnie Camacho, friend Cindy Guess and Interim Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to Haskell Cemetery Association, 1 Avenue D, Haskell, Texas 79521; Haskell-Mattson-Weinert-Rochester Homecoming Association, P.O. Box 1053, Haskell, Texas 79521 or First Baptist Church, 301 North Avenue E, Haskell, Texas 79521.
