He graduated from Haskell High School in 1957 and received his Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture from Texas Tech University in 1962. Post-graduation, he worked for the USDA Soil Conservation Service for 2 years. BJ then continued his degree plan in Education and began teaching in Three Way, Texas for a year before moving his family to Rule, Texas where he taught for 29 years before retiring in 1997. During his teaching career at Rule, BJ married Sharon Kay Fischer Lusk in 1994 and they have resided in Haskell, Texas since 1998. BJ taught at Goree, Texas for 3 years as they were closing the school system.
BJ was not only a teacher, but he held just about every position the school system could offer. He was a principal; football, basketball, tennis and golf coach; drove the bus; class sponsor; drivers ed teacher and custodian when the need arose.
Fishing, hunting, camping, traveling, photography and charcoal drawing were some of BJ's hobbies. He really enjoyed doing a Bible Trivia in Sunday school at the Methodist Church. He was called the Professor because no one passed his tests.
BJ's main love though was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, extended family and a host of friends.
BJ was known for his quick wit, story-telling, his infectious laugh and generous smile, but mainly his kind and compassionate spirit.
